Campus Outreach & Marketing Internship @ Hostelling International


Hostelling International New England (HI-New England) is the regional affiliate of Hostelling International USA, a network of 63 hostels throughout the United States.  HI-New England is a non-profit organization which oversees seven hostels in Massachusetts and coordinates travel related educational programs in the Boston area.  Our mission is; To help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people, through hostelling.

Key Responsibilities: The Campus Outreach and Marketing Intern will work to increase the visibility of the HI-USA brand on college campuses by coordinating free travel workshops and collaborating with campus organizations to sponsor other appropriate events.  The intern will:

  • Recruit speakers for a monthly travel workshop series (intern may also present workshops)
  • Present HI-USA workshops, such as women travel solo or world travel 101
  • In addition to established workshops intern will create engaging workshop topics such as; alternative ways to travel across the USA: Run, Bike, or Drive
  • Recruit audience members, workshops are free and open to the public
  • Publicize workshops on campus
  • Locate and reserve lecture space
  • Represent HI-New England at outreach events
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Travel experience, backpacking preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Creative
  • Public speaking experience
  • Connected to student organizations and community groups
  • Experience with In-Design and Photoshop is very helpful

Time Commitment and Work Location:

  • Spring semester, start date negotiable (January-May 2012)
  • Must be able to work approximately 10-15 hours a week
  • HI-New England office located in Teele Square, Somerville
  • Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends


  • Excellent support and mentoring provided by HI-New England Program and Marketing Manager
  • Leadership experience
  • Resume building experience and a letter of recommendation at the end of assignment
  • $200 monthly stipend
