TWO Available Internships @ Toxic Action Center

About Us: At Toxics Action Center, we believe that everyone has the right to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and live in a healthy community. Our mission is to work side by side with New England residents to build strong groups to prevent and clean up toxics, while developing long-term leaders for the environmental movement. Since 1987, Toxics Action Center has assisted more than 700 community groups working to prevent and clean up toxic pollution in their communities. Toxics Action Center provides organizing and strategic assistance to community groups working to clean up toxic waste sites, pressure companies to reduce the use of toxic chemicals. We also work proactively to promote clean, renewable energy and zero waste. Through our unique grassroots trainings; our network of hundreds of neighborhood activists and environmental experts; and our organizing conferences that annually attract more than 500 attendees throughout New England, Toxics Action Center works side-by-side with residents to protect our families and the environment from toxic chemicals and promote citizen leadership and empowerment.

1. Social Media and Web Outreach Internship 

As part of our company’s 25th Anniversary celebration in March 2012, Toxics Action Center will raise awareness of the organization and our work across New England, though a program of events, media outreach, and social/new media campaigns.  We are currently looking for an intern to assist developing materials related to our 25th Anniversary, and who wants to gain experience in media outreach, planning, social networking.


  • Help to write and upload content for Toxics Action Center’s 25th Anniversary website, which will highlight 25 years of victories around New England
  • Conduct research and execute a regional media plan
  • Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive social networking plan
  • Assist in the planning and execution of the 25th annual citizens conference
  • Hold regular office hours and planning meetings with staff

2. Event Planning Internship


  • Work with Toxics Action staff to develop a semester action plan
  • Sign up community businesses to co-sponsor conference
  • Assist with managing conference logistics
  • Recruit activists to attend conference
  • Help with outreach to publicize event
  • Hold regular office hours and planning meetings with staff

Skills Required for BOTH Internships:

  • Commitment to environmental issues and social change
  • Strong communication and writings skills
  • Desire to develop event planning and outreach skills
  • Social media aptitude
  • Must learn quickly and work efficiently
